We are looking for expressions of interest to represent and be the face of the Horowhenua District Council. In our Animal Control Officer team, you would be making an essential contribution to our community and be working in a fun, busy, diverse and energetic environment.  Animal Control Officers play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety of animals and residents in our community. 

You will respond to animal-related incidents, enforce local regulations, and educate pet owners on responsible animal care. As part of our Animal Control team, you’ll deliver essential services on behalf of the Council and our community, playing a key role in connecting people with the right resources and ensuring the right expertise is applied to every situation.

Our current positions are:

Full time 40 hours per week permanent role Monday to Sunday as per roster with an on call component that is rotated throughout the team.
Part time permanent role weekends and half a day throughout the week – 20 hours. This role is part of the rotating on call roster.

You'll be an amazing communicator who is passionate about animal welfare and public safety. You will be friendly, approachable and capable of building relationships with all internal and external Stakeholders. Being a self-starter and able to self-manage will be key to the success of this role. Your attention to detail will be on point along with your time management and investigative skills. You will respond in a timely manner to all animal related enquiries, addressing community concerns and fulfilling requests with professionalism and care.

This role is dedicated to ensuring the safety and welfare of animals and the public, promoting responsible pet ownership, and supporting the community through education, enforcement, and effective resolution of animal-related issues.

Having strong relationships across the organisation and the community will be beneficial to the success of this role.
